Desktop Hypervisors in 2015

DesktopVirtualizationFour and a half years ago, I wrote an article exploring the competition between Citrix and VMware in the desktop hypervisors space: Citrix and VMware face-off over client hypervisors. Citrix had just released XenDesktop 4.0 Feature Pack 2, which introduced XenClient as a bundled component in XenDesktop. One month earlier, at VMworld, VMware had broken the glass ceiling separating VMware from Citrix with View 4.5. Continue reading Desktop Hypervisors in 2015

XenApp 7.x: Virtual Reality

ApplicationVirtualizationBack in January when Citrix announced that it would be reintroducing XenApp, many cheered. They were delighted that Citrix was finally acknowledging that virtual applications weren’t facing extinction or playing second fiddle to virtual desktops. Citrix Synergy 2014: Will the Vision Hit the Mark?

Citrix100x30Although the Citrix Synergy 2014 agenda focuses on mobility, the newest and largest sponsors instead seem to be entrenched in storage and add-ons to the traditional XenApp/XenDesktop offerings. While mobility does have a growing place in business solutions, is the market headed in one direction while Citrix attemps to lead us down another path?
