vCloud Air Attack: Back to Basics

VirtualizationSecurityVMware recently announced an upgrade to vSphere, 5.5 Update 2d, that fixes an issue with transparent page sharing (TPS). This issue allowed an attacker to break encryption keys if VMs shared the same server even for a small amount of time. This is not a trivial problem, but it brings me to a simple point. We think encryption will solve everything related to security. But encryption is only a part of the solution, and not even the most important part. Nor the most powerful. Social Servers

agilecloudThe twenty-first century has brought with it the rise of virtualization and cloud computing, along with the ascent of social media. Nowadays, it appears that a solid majority of people have participated in some sort of social media outlet, such as Facebook, Twitter, Yammer, SocialCast, and SnapChat, just to name a few. There is no arguing that there aren’t a number of good things about social media, like the ability to more easily keep in touch with family and friends, but have you ever considered the idea of using social media to keep in touch with your servers? Could having social servers be beneficial in your environment?

vPilgrimage to VMworld 2011

VMworld 2011 is fast approaching and now is the time to start making final preparations for the pilgrimage to Las Vegas.  The question that I see a lot, before these types of events, is what can I do to get the most out of the conference?  I have been lucky enough to have been to all the VMworld Conferences since 2005 as well as one lucky trip to VMworld Europe in 2009.  I am going to chime in on the some of the things that I do to get the most out of VMworld.
